Elestine Smittick brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Unbound Ed CORE Learning, drawing from over 40 years of working in public schools in various roles including classroom teacher, literacy content expert, district administrator, and educational consultant. Elestine has decades of experience transforming school-wide culture and classroom environments that support not only student learning but also, teacher growth and development. The goal is to provide positive guidance with standards-based instruction aimed at ensuring all students have opportunities to achieve at the highest levels. Elestine joined UnboundEd’s management team after working as a literacy educational consultant for several years.
After retiring from LAUSD in 2016, Elestine worked as a literacy consultant throughout the United States. As a consultant, she managed a team of 12 consultants with reading implementation at over 350 elementary schools. As the consultant manager, she was able to provide district-level and site-level training using the science of reading research rooted in best practices for literacy instruction. Elestine brings a comprehensive set of skills that are at the heart of Unbound Ed’s vision.
Elestine’s journey from classroom teacher to leadership roles shows her commitment to lifelong learning and to our education system. Starting as a classroom teacher and moving into leadership roles helped her to develop into a teacher who values teaching. Elestine knows what is possible and is committed to making sure that possibility exists for all teachers and students.
