Jamila Kai Mathis
M.S., Educational Consultant — Math, Middle & High School
Jamila Kai Mathis is an Educational Services Consultant for CORE. Beyond being dedicated to the art and science of her own teaching, she is passionate about helping other teachers, educators, and administrators find excitement and joy in their work with students. She focuses on equitable instruction, pedagogical content knowledge, and teaching methods that support all learners. She currently works as a Mathematics Specialist at an alternative high school as well as a Facilitator for UnboundEd. She has spent nearly two decades in the field as a middle and high school teacher in urban and suburban settings in Michigan and Maryland. She stands firm in the fact that all students should have the opportunity to engage with and see the beauty of mathematics. Furthermore, she believes that teachers need to be eager and properly equipped to guide them along this journey.
Jamila received her Bachelor of Arts degree in social relations (social policy) and her teaching credentials, in both mathematics and social studies, from Michigan State University in 2003. After matriculating at the University of Michigan’s Rackham Graduate School, she has currently decided to pursue her Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Mathematics Education at Purdue University.
