Karen Schreiner
M.A., Educational Consultant — Literacy, K-6
Karen Schreiner is a Literacy Consultant with CORE. She currently serves as a TK-2 Assistant Principal with a focus on literacy and reading acquisition at a Title 1 school in Oakland. She supports her school with high-quality RTI and SIPPS implementation which has resulted in nearly tripling the percentage of students who are proficient in foundational literacy skills. For the three years prior, Karen served as an Assistant Principal and Principal in a Title 1 school in Oakland where she facilitated the adoption of Structured Literacy practices as well as a curricular suite aligned to the Science of Reading. For five years prior to moving into school leadership, Karen was a classroom teacher in Oakland. In July 2023, she will be transitioning into a new role as Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning at a small district in East Palo Alto.
In addition to coaching and leading, Karen has facilitated professional learning for more than 100 educators around best practices in Structured Literacy, language acquisition, and data-driven instruction. She holds a master’s degree in Education from the University of the Pacific and a master’s degree in School Counseling Psychology from Boston College.
