Sue Mielcarek

Sue Mielcarek is an Educational Services Consultant at CORE. Sue has 33 years of experience working in schools with a specialty and passion for literacy, special education, MTSS, and response to intervention. Sue graduated from Northern Michigan University with a B.S. in Special Education and Elementary Education and a minor in English/Speech. She received her M.A. in Learning Disabilities. She worked at the Hannahville Indian School for 18 years as a special education teacher, Pre-K, 1st, and 4th grade teacher, Title 1, and Reading Coach during Reading First for six years. During this time, she received extensive reading training through the Bureau of Indian Education. She also worked for EndVision doing observations, professional development, and DIBELS testing on many Native American Reservations during Reading First.
For the last 13 years, Sue has been a K-12 Literacy Consultant for an intermediate school district that includes six public schools. Besides providing professional development and coaching teachers, she has been responsible for special education achievement testing, assisting the school psychologists in cognitive achievement testing, and compliance.
Sue lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with her husband and dog. Her son is 27 and is in the Navy, and her 24-year-old daughter works at the V.A. Hospital. Her hobbies currently include traveling, listening to music, and chasing chipmunks off her potted tomato plants.
